Team building is more than just going out for a beer, pizza and a few laps of a Go Karting track.

This is Team Bonding aimed at enhancing the communication between people in a team and a 'Get to know each other' type of event.

Whilst there is merit in this form of social outing, true team performance comes when people within the team work to their personal best in specific roles within their team aligned to a shared and purposeful outcome.

There is an increasing amount of evidence from research study as well as organisational surveys that demonstrate the need for highly effective teams to achieve sustainable success.

The traditional team building activities in the 1990's where people were forced outside of their comfort zones to trek across baron landscapes or build a raft became a thing of the past due to budget cuts and the irrelevance of the learning in favour of a jolly day out of the workplace.

Well, the new era of functional team working includes a more focused approach to developing collaborative units whether designed and delivered for the classroom or outdoors.

Whether working with a newly formed team to accelerate the development of relationships and finding strengths, or working on the dysfunctional elements of a less effective group, Expressions can design and deliver a programme or event that will generate the desired results.

We have a starter survey used to ascertain current views and evidence, then use these results to design the best approach for sustained improvement. 

Team Building Outcomes

Teams who have experienced a team building programme have seen improved performances in their effective planning, allocating the right amount of time and attention to planning for the best results.
They communicate with each other and respect each other's right to voice their ideas to find a better way to solve problems and improve outcomes.
They elect a team leader regardless of seniority, but of best fit for the specific task or project and there is mutual respect for the role of the leader and each member of the team.
Each team member plays to their strengths and are less concerned with ego (self importance) and more with Eco (team importance).

They also trust each other and rely on each other to perform at their best so the team achieves the bigger results.

Specific Improvements have included

  • Retail client reacting to a flood in-store was told by the insurance company they would have to close for a minimum of 5 weeks. They were closed for 2 days planned their approach and served their valued customers through their shop door whilst wearing ‘wellies’ and ensuring their customers received their essential goods.
  • Transport engineering department where two departments who needed each other to fulfil their business KPIs were disconnected and self-sabotaging due to legacy issues. Not only are now they working more collaboratively they have mutual respect and appreciation for the role they both play in delivering the core services of the operation. This has resulted in less penalties and more profit.
  • A hotel where the executive team was working well but they needed to be at their best to navigate through a challenging period and manage an increase in demand. The results included better communication and appreciation with the teams working more collaboratively and the guest experience was noticeably at its best through Trip Adviser ratings and feedback as well as profitability in the hotel overall.
